Thank you for another wonderful read! I think your analogy is spot on and I am impressed by how many great parallels you drew. We have a local Gin company that offers a discount on bottles when you return an empty bottle…they currently cannot reuse the bottles that are returned due to regulations, but they are working on it.

Aw Lady - thank you so much for taking the time to, not only read this, but also comment. I appreciate you! Makeup and wine really are my two greatest indulgences (hair products are essential...and I can make every excuse to indulge in great food 😂)...and it's curious how I, and the consumers, hold the two industries to very different standards. I love love love that your local Gin company accepts empties AND rewards you for returning the bottle. It's good to hear that they're considering and working on reusing the bottles. I can't quite figure out why we can't make it work - returnable coke bottles, milk bottles, BEER bottles. I feel like there SHOULD be a way to make it work. Though, whether anyone other than eco conscious diehards and those nostalgic about milk deliveries will use it. That's why I think it's brilliant that this Gin company offers a tangible reward!

Urghhhh...how gorgeous are those Louboutin lipstick holders! I keep telling myself 'you don't need one'...but also tell myself ' it could double as a self defence weapon'...right 😂? Good thing they're not available in Cape Town! More budget for wine!

Aww, thank you so much for taking the time to read this post. Perhaps it's because wine and makeup are the two most unnecessary luxuries in my life...and so it's an obvious comparison for me. They're similar in so many ways...and consumers engage with both in similar ways (especially when it comes to being invested in product reviews)...yet their consumers hold them to very different standards.

The milkman was a legend! It was such a convenient service...way before anyone started using the word 'sustainability'. PS. I can't believe my parents let me call the milkman 'Milkie'. And the postman 'Postie'. 😂!

Brilliant post. I too have a significant makeup brush and wine glass collection - I thought it was just me.

Thank you for raising the points of further inclusivity that is needed. When we see it we need to continue to call it out. We need a kinder more inclusive world.

Yay for fellow makeup and wine lovers! We think it's completely normal to have that many makeup brushes and wine glasses. Until a non makeup or wine lover asks for a brush or glass...and we end up asking 20 questions to figure out which one to hand over 😂!

Ja...it's weird how, especially in South Africa, wine marketing often doesn't even notice the way their brand comes across to consumers. "We need a kinder more inclusive world." - those are very wise words that we all need to remember and practice each day...until one day it becomes the absolute norm.

It's been a while... but it was worth the wait - great piece! I'm not in the habit of wearing lipstick but that's a fun fact to know!

I've realised that once a month plenty for me...and for everyone who takes the time to read my rants 😂! Ha ha ha - the same applies to lip balm...I dare you to give it a try and be the odd kid licking his wine glass!
